Background and aims

Although many methods of non pharmacological to deal with the neonatal pain, but the efficacy and safety of this method still show a different outcome. The aim of this study is to undertake a narrative review of quantitative studies of non pharmacological methods on neonatal pain.

Methods

Keyword searches of Cochrane review, Medline, CINAHL databases. Manual searches of other relevant journals and reference lists of primary articles. The inclusion criteria were studies with non pharmacological analgesia for neonatal.

Conclusion

Quanitative studies (n = 33) on non pharmacological analgesia for neonatal were identified. Analysis of the results of studies reviewed revealed 16 type of non pharmacological neonatal analgesia : Sucrose solution, glucose solution, expressed human milk, breastfeeding, non-nutritive sucking, facilitated tucking, swaddling, positioning, maternal touching and holding, environtmental care, individual developmenta care, skin to skin or Kangaroo Mother Care, Sensorial saturation, music therapy, aromatherapy (amniotic fluid, brestmilk, vanilla, lavender), Yakson touch (from Korea).
